Committee on Architecture for Education: Call for Volunteer Leadership

Application deadline: August 13, 2008

The Leadership Group for the Committee on Architecture for Education seeks a candidate for appointment to the 2009 Leadership Group.

The Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) is a learning community committed to enhancing learning environments through thoughtful research-based and collaborative planning and design. Our goal is to blend the development of a deeper understanding of the learning process with sustainable design responses to truly serve learners of the future by:

1. Providing real world examples that illustrate the relationship between the physical environment and changing pedagogy
2. Promoting design excellence
3. Building strong partnerships with allied organizations
4. Connecting with the communities we serve

With this foundation, we will build the capacity for our members to be the advocates for high quality learning environments that flexibly accommodate current and future trends in teaching and learning, sustainability, and sensitive integration with their communities.

As the second oldest knowledge community, we represent a broad range of environments that engage people in the activity of learning throughout their lives. The knowledge we build transcends age to create effective environments that engage, enrich and expand the capacity of individuals to be contributing members of our society. It builds the capacity of our members to expand their position in the industry and to be a credible voice of educational design. CAE is responsible for developing and communicating knowledge for the following areas:

1. Pre-K through 12 schools - Public, private and charter
2. Community and Technical Colleges - Public two and four year institutions
3. Colleges and Universities - Public and private four year academic, research and advanced degree granting institutions
4. Art Museums and Interpretive Centers - Public and private institutions with a focus on expanding peoples understanding about the arts, sciences, the environment and culture.
5. Libraries -  Public facilities that serve the community, and/or academic institutions
6. Corporate Learning Facilities

The work of the committee is lead by a Leadership Group appointed by the current year president of AIA. This five member group coordinates all activities of the committee and provides strategic direction and leadership to other subcommittees of the membership. Appointments are renewed annually for the five year commitment.
